The bronze sculpture "Paternoster" by Elisabeth Frink, created in 1975, stands on Paternoster Square next to St. Paul's Cathedral. The sculpture shows a shepherd with five sheep and is a reminder of the history of the area. The former Newgate Market on Newgate Street was a place where livestock and meat were traded.

The bronze sculpture, also referred to by "Shepherd and Sheep" by Elisabeth Frink is a reference to Newgate Meat Market that was on this site from the late 17th century, until Smithfield took it’s place in 1868. The use of sheep is also a religious nod to the proximity of St Paul’s Cathedral.
