The Alte Münze is a building in the East Westphalian city of Minden in North Rhine-Westphalia. It was built around 1260. The house is considered the oldest stone house in Westphalia. [1] [2] The three-storey house is made up of sandstone blocks. It is provided with a stepped gable and Gothic tracery windows from the 13th century. They were only uncovered in 1928. In a phase of renovation at the beginning of the 17th century, the building was given an alignment and a portal of the late Renaissance.

For a long time it was assumed that this building used to be the Minden coin, as there were many coins there. However, this is considered unlikely today, since flowing water was required to produce coins. Therefore, it is believed that this was the mint master's apartment from the 14th to 16th centuries.

The "Alte Münze" building is one of the oldest bourgeois stone houses in Westphalia.
The three-storey building was built around 1260 from sandstone blocks. Nothing is known about the original use of the house, presumably as part of a larger estate.
The Gothic tracery windows that can be found on the facades facing Brüderstrasse and Kampstrasse probably date from the late 13th century and were only uncovered and reconstructed in 1926-28.
Only in sources from the 16th century is the building described as the mint master's house.
At the beginning of the 17th century, the house was completely rebuilt and received the bay window and an archway in Weser Renaissance styles.

The Alte Münze is a building in the East Westphalian town of Minden in North Rhine-Westphalia. It was built around the year 1260. The house is considered the oldest stone house in Westphalia. [1] [2]

The three-storey house is built of sandstone blocks. It is accidentally with a stepped gable and gothic tracery windows from the 13th century. They were only uncovered in 1928. In a reconstruction phase at the beginning of the 17th century, the building got a gorge and a portal of the late renaissance.

For a long time it was assumed that this building was formerly the Minden coin, as there were many coins found there. However, this is considered unlikely today as it required running waters to produce coins. Therefore, it is believed that this was the apartment of the mint master, from the 14th - 16th centuries.

Today there is a restaurant in the building, which is also called "Alte Münze".
