In the past, many Jews lived here who were not granted the right to live in the city.
They had their own independent community with their own mayor and built their first synagogue, which also included a school, here in 1714.
The former prosperity of this street can still be seen today in the large half-timbered houses.
The second oldest preserved house in Peine, the "Pelikanhaus" from 1611, is also located here.
