In the past, many Jews lived here who did not get residency rights in the city.
They had their own independent community with their own mayor and built their first synagogue at this location in 1714, which also included a school.
The former prosperity of this street can still be recognized today by the large half-timbered houses.
Here is also located the second oldest preserved residential building in Peine, the "Pelikanhaus" from 1611.
