  • The Krasnapolsky memorial stone in the Pein city forest, the Herzberg, commemorates Adolf Wilhelm Krasnapolsky. In 1911 he donated 30,000 gold marks for the reforestation of the Herzberg.Krasnapolsky (May 24, 1834 - April 22, 1912) grew up in Peine and was of Polish descent. After completing his apprenticeship with a tailor, he emigrated to Holland and was extremely successful as a businessman in Amsterdam. He was the owner of the internationally renowned “Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky”.The boulder bears the inscription: “To the memory of the generous founder A.W. Krasnapolsky 1912.” However, it is not proven whether the stone was actually erected in 1912. The memorial stone is located on Krasnapolsky Way, on the so-called Love Ground. From there a path leads to the hill with the water tower built in 1908 in the romantic castle style.
