As a spirit of evil, he was forbidden to enter the sanctuary. So he could only observe the sacred action from a distance. As the bishop raised his hands to bless the new church, the devil seized a raging fury. He tore the left shoe from his foot and threw it with tremendous force against the chapel. The shoe missed his goal, however. He flew in a high arc against the city wall and dug himself into the walls, where he is still visible today.
