"The old waterworks in Wesel has been recognized as a technical monument since 1953. Today it is one of the most beautiful and oldest preserved steam-powered facilities in Germany. In 1986, the old waterworks became a museum that offers visitors a comprehensive picture of Wesel's water supply from 1886 to 1956. Many completely preserved structural and mechanical systems that were still in operation until they were shut down can be visited today. These include a brick shaft well, a steam boiler, a two-cylinder steam pump system and an electric centrifugal pump with a starter controlled by water pressure."
