Opposite the town hall on the market square in Meissen is the market pharmacy, which was built in the Renaissance style by Dr. Christoph Leuschner between 1555 and 1560. The portal with the Doric columns and lion heads as well as a depiction of Icarus is particularly worth seeing.

With its two Renaissance gables, the Market Pharmacy is one of the most distinctive buildings on the market square. Also of interest is the oriel above the portal – a sculpture depicting a bearded angel. This refers to the two profound inscriptions: "non altum" – not (too) high (out) and "non humile" – not (too) low (presumably also in the sense of not too subservient).
