Opposite the town hall on the market square in Meissen is the market pharmacy, which was built in the Renaissance style by Dr. Christoph Leuschner between 1555 and 1560. The portal with the Doric columns and lion heads as well as a depiction of Icarus is particularly worth seeing.

Built in 1560 by order of the town physician, Dr. Christoph Leuschner, the building features a large bay window in the central axis, resting on two Doric columns on the ground floor. This bay window dates from 1717. The market pharmacy, founded in 1504 (inscription on the corner of the building, see illustration below), held the exclusive right to distribute medicines, thus counteracting the widespread counterfeiting by medicine dealers and quacks. The building was extensively renovated and extensively remodeled in 1985/88. A painted wooden beam ceiling, exposed and restored during this process, can be admired in the pharmacy.

With its two Renaissance gables, the Market Pharmacy is one of the most distinctive buildings on the market square. Also of interest is the oriel above the portal – a sculpture depicting a bearded angel. This refers to the two profound inscriptions: "non altum" – not (too) high (out) and "non humile" – not (too) low (presumably also in the sense of not too subservient).
