The now Protestant St. Afra Church dates back to the founding of the Margraviate of Meissen. The second church on this site was completed in 1064. In that year, the remains of St. Afra were rediscovered in Augsburg. This was taken into account when choosing the patronage. Starting in 1205, an Augustinian Canons' monastery was established here. Large parts of the church building were rebuilt in the 13th and 15th centuries. The interior features an impressive, richly decorated carved altar and the pulpit, which is supported by a whale figure spitting out Jonah. An interesting depiction of this biblical story. The Schleinitz Chapel with its epitaphs is also worth seeing.
