The Dürrensteinhütte (2,040 m) is located in the Braies Dolomites mountain range in South Tyrol, on the Plätzwiese plateau.
The plateau in the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park is surrounded by the Hohe Gaisl, Tre Cime, Tofana and Monte Cristallo mountain groups. The plateau can be reached by car from Braies (to the north) and Schluderbach (to the south), so the hut is easily accessible in a few minutes on foot (approx. 35 minutes) and also with strollers.
Right next to the hut are the impressive ruins of an Austro-Hungarian fort called Werk Plätzwiese.
