The Strudelkopf offers views to the horizon in about 290 degrees: Three Peaks, Monte Cristallo, Monte Pelmo, Tofana, High Gaisl, Red Wall, Seekofel .... There is a relief with the name of almost 100 mountains.
Only the higher Dürrenstein interrupts the all-round view.

From the Dürrensteinhütte you can reach the cross on the Strudelkopf in about 45 minutes. The sunset at the Strudelkopf is a dream, even if the fireball disappears quite early behind the massive walls of the Hohen Gaisl (3,146 m). The play of colors on the rock faces of the Drei Zinnen to the east and the towers of the Cristallo group, which is well over 3,000 m high in the south, is breathtaking. For the ascent you should take the exciting climb to the right of the hut terrace through the old positions from the 1st World War. This is not feasible for bikes. For the way back, I recommend the old military route to the hut. You can also ride this up and down on a mountain bike.

A simply beautiful panoramic view is up there. As a tip not forget .... the road is only until 10 o'clock with car passable, afterwards only shuttle bus. Car costs 8 euros. That's full of O.K. Bus is more expensive as a family, as you pay upwards and downwards per person 3 euros each. And you should be tough on the bus drivers ... 😉

This excursion was recommended to us by the owner of the hotel, and was excellent advice. One of the most beautiful viewpoints of all the Dolomites: you can see, just to mention the most famous, the Tofane di Cortina, the Pale di S. Martino, Monte Cristallo, the three peaks of Lavaredo .... a priceless view .
