The Old Tower in Mettlach is the oldest surviving sacred building - and at the same time the oldest building ever - in the Saarland. It is therefore one of the symbols of the Saarland. It was built around 990-994 as the Ottonian burial chapel of Saint Liutwinus (founder of Mettlach Monastery in 676).
