Small but nice park. You should bring a bit of time and patience to watch or discover the wolves! The howling of the wolves is great! The park does not charge admission fees.

The visit is free. Really beautiful location, it can be easily combined with a ten kilometer hike on the Wolfsweg.
Some ascents and descents lead you through a fairytale forest, through an apple tree plantation, past the garden of the senses and there are some beautiful viewing points.
I liked this path very much.

A visit to these beautiful animals is definitely worthwhile. We were lucky and could see 4 of the polar wolves. However, since the animals have a lot of retreats, there is no guarantee to see them. Note: Dogs are allowed in the Wolf Park, but forbidden by the polar wolves (because of stupidity less dog owners)

The arctic wolves in the Wolf Park are best seen, as they only become invisible in winter when it is snowing.
Unfortunately, the confrontation with aggressive dogs led to social problems in the pack, which is why the northern part of the park is now taboo for dogs and the northern access is also permanently closed. So hikers have to take a detour or just plan with the southern and eastern entrances, which the dream loop has not yet taken into account.

A must for people who want to experience wolves in their diversity up close!

Werner Freund (2.3.1933 - 9.2.2014) built the first wolf enclosure in 1977 at Wolfspark in the Kammerforst, a little away from the district town of Merzig. Werner Freund has been involved in behavioral research in wolves for more than 30 years, became the "wolf among wolves" and became the leader of the Merzig pack. Freund raised over 70 wolves in various packs of wolves. The district town of Merzig became known worldwide as the "City of Wolves".

The path through shady mixed forest begins directly at the wolf enclosure. The Grätschlucht gorge makes it dim. 44 steps lead up from the valley via a tree ladder. Rivulets run through the slope, jungle-like forest images wherever you look.

The forest opens up towards an old orchard meadow. The scent of meadow herbs and countless meadow flowers permeates the air. A dream backdrop: countless splashes of color shine from the meadows, with hedges and bushes in between. Later the route runs through the middle of an apple orchard.

In the “Garden of the Senses”, eleven garden rooms framed by hedges have been created on 15,000 square meters. In addition to the extraordinary flora, the visitor will find various themed areas.

The Wolfsweg Merzig was certified with 60 points by the German Hiking Institute.

The wolf park is not only highly recommended for wolf lovers. Here is also the entrance to the beautiful Wolfsweg circular walk (about 10km)

Beautiful wolf park from the unfortunately deceased wolf researcher Werner Freund. A little tip for dog owners: it is best to leave the dog leashed or not bring along because the presence of dogs, the wolves to territorial defense behavior stimulates, and by the resulting stress for the animals already a wolf pack had to be resolved ... otherwise a very nice quiet Place with cozy park benches to rest and watch. Also the high weatherproof lookout towers have fallen with.

Even if I personally like the wolf in the wild better, the park is beautiful and informative.

Very nice and quiet place. The wolves were a bit tired and hidden after feeding on Sunday, but despite everything I can highly recommend a visit to this place!!!

Mr. Freund told me that dogs are now completely banned because of the difficulties. Of the 4 entrances, the western one seems closed or at least unused to me. We were lucky and saw 3 wolf species. We recommend the well signposted hiking trail "Wolfsweg".

Small but nice! Even if it is always nicer to see animals in the wild, the wolf park offers a great opportunity to see wolves up close.

Free entry to a great park, where you can watch the wolves with a little patience. Dogs are no longer allowed in because of a few dog owners who have not been able to see them

Just as information so as not to make long descent routes in vain.
As mentioned above, people who want to come with their dog have unfortunately been denied entry in the whole park since 2020.
Otherwise an interesting enclosure and park that I have always enjoyed visiting.
