There are seven memorials in Slana Banja in Tuzla where flowers are laid on important dates. One of these is the monument to Josip Broz Tito and the National Heroes 1941-1945. And one of the dates that grateful Tuzla citizens mark with the mayor of Tuzla laying flowers on their behalf with appropriate speeches is October 2nd. That's the day the city was first liberated from the fascists in 1943. At that time, Tuzla was the largest liberated area in all of Europe. The liberation lasted for forty days, after which the city was reoccupied. The final liberation took place in September 1944.

In the central part of Tuzla's Slana Banja park and promenade, on Liberty Alley, stands the National Heroes Plateau. The bust of Josip Broz Tito stands on the plateau in the center. His bust is surrounded by the busts of 18 Yugoslav national heroes from the 1941–1945 War of Liberation. A few were Tito's close associates, but most of these heroes come from Tuzla and the surrounding area. Here are their names:
