The monument 1940-1945 in Geertruidenberg (municipality of Geertruidenberg) consists of a bronze sculpture of a male figure pushing two plates of corten steel apart. These plates form the letter V.

Symbolism
The letter V symbolizes Freedom, Peace, Victory and Resistance. With difficulty the male figure manages to keep the plates apart; peace and freedom are always under pressure, under tension.
Incorporation
The monument was erected on the initiative of the Junior Chamber, which is based in Oosterhout. Members from the municipality of Geertruidenberg also sat in the room. Hence the idea to do something outside Oosterhout. Around 1984, 40 years after the end of the war, a number of people, almost forty, somewhere in the region wanted to do something about that fact. The choice fell on Geertruidenberg because there was no memorial there. The Junior Chamber commissioned artist Paul Elshout to design the monument.
