Schoot, a sub-municipality of Tessenderlo, only became an independent parish in 1873. In the beginning, a barn was used as a temporary church. In 1878, this St. Joseph's Church or St. Joseph Workman's Church was built, construction started in 1875. It is a Neo-Romanesque crucifix designed by architect F.
