Louis Roppe was also active as a historian who published several studies on the French period in Belgium and the United Kingdom. Under his governorship, the Provincial Library of Hasselt was founded in 1958, a study centre on the Peasants' War and the French regime. He was also one of the editors-in-chief of the publication Twintig Eeuwen Vlaanderen from 1972 to 1979.

Louis Roppe (Heers, February 21, 1914 - Hasselt, February 25, 1982) was a Belgian lawyer and historian. He was, among other things, a representative and governor of the Belgian province of Limburg.
