The sandstone Bildstock commemorates the siege of the town of Weismain by Swedish troops in 1632. In this dangerous situation, the Weismain official Brückner devised a ruse: He had peasants march continuously in a circle around the Kalkberg with raised wooden sticks. The Swedes, seeing the sticks from a distance, mistook them for rifles and believed it to be a huge army. In a panic, they hastily abandoned their camp, even leaving behind their heavy siege cannons. As thanks for the bloodless rescue, the "Schwedenkreuz" commemorates this deed today.
