Problem: The Geleenbeek - right tributary of the Maas is about 45km long and rises near Heerlen - flows into the Moleplas in the upper southeast corner. (plas is Dutch and means a pond/lake) The Moleplas is connected to the Biltplas (Verlengde Oute Maas), which then flows into the Maas. Fish coming from the Maas that want to swim up the Geleenbeek cannot find their way because they lack the current in the lakes that they need for orientation. This is a particular problem for chub and barbel.
