Strom vom Schnellen Graben: For almost a century, the three-meter incline and the water supply of the leash have been used here to generate energy. The WKW Schneller Graben reliably supplies around 1,500 households with electricity today.
As early as 1885, the idea of using the weir at the Schnelle Graben with its three-meter gradient for energy production came to Hannover for the first time. 35 years later - fuel was scarce and expensive in the aftermath of the First World War - the plan became a reality. On 11 March 1920 it was decided to build the hydroelectric power plant, on 3 November 1921 it went into operation. At that time, 2.6 million kilowatt hours could be generated annually and fed into the network of the municipal electricity utility. Today, the two Francis shaft turbines produce around 3 million kilowatt hours of electricity a year for enercity - efficient, consumption-oriented, regenerative and reliable.
