The Franciscans, who had been in the city since 1630, initially lived in the hospital. The construction of the monastery was delayed due to the Thirty Years' War. The convent building only began in 1660 and the church building began in 1667 according to the plans of the Mainz and Würzburg court architect Antonio Petrini.

The main portal, donated by the Mainz Archbishop Johann Philipp von Schönborn, and the baroque interior design of the church are particularly worth seeing.

The Franciscan order left Miltenberg in 1983. Today, Caritas Association offices work here.
