Hiking
The name Lamanai means "submerged crocodile" in the Maya language. With a settlement period of around 3000 years, it is one of the longest continuously populated Mayan cities. In the classic period around 700 AD, the population grew to over 20,000. Unlike most other Mayan sites, Lamanai was also populated when the Spaniards came to Belize in the 16th century.

Temple town of Lamanai, which can be reached after a two-hour boat trip from Orange Walk across the New River. A great place with a lot of atmosphere. Even those who have been to Tikal will be amazed here.
