Altun Ha is a Mayan ruined city. It is located approximately 45 km north of Belize City, Belize and 10 km west of the Caribbean Sea. It is believed that the name Altun Ha means “water coming out of the rock”.

The first traces of settlement in Altun Ha date back to 1000 BC. BC. The site consists of two main squares and a total of 300 documented buildings, including at least 13 temples. Most of the buildings visible today come from the so-called classical period. The relatively large number of buildings and rich grave goods suggest that Altun Ha benefited from the coastal-inland trade network.

The highest temple in Altun Ha is approximately 16 m high. One of the most important finds is a 15 cm high and 4.5 kg heavy jade head depicting the sun god K'inich Ajaw.
