Hiking
The name Lamanai means "submerged crocodile" in the Maya language. With a settlement period of around 3000 years, it is one of the longest continuously populated Mayan cities. In the classic period around 700 AD, the population grew to over 20,000. Unlike most other Mayan sites, Lamanai was also populated when the Spaniards came to Belize in the 16th century.

The temple city of Lamanai is a must when visiting Orange Walk. After a two-hour boat tour you reach the landing stage. A guide is required for exploration. A worthwhile and beautiful place.
