In the Frankweiler Forest, numerous burial mounds and grave gardens have been preserved in a protected location, while the traces of former burial sites on the surrounding fields are heavily worn away by the plow and are hardly noticeable.

The group of burial mounds in the Frankweiler Forest near Karrenweg was first mentioned in a find report in 1936 and has repeatedly been the target of robbery excavations. There are a total of 12 burial mounds, including three strikingly large mounds with a diameter between 27 m and 34 m. The burial mounds are located south of the cart path.

In 2002 there was a scientific investigation of a burial mound. The central burial turned out to be destroyed by a robbery excavation. A subsequent burial was brought into the burial mound, a ceramic vessel from the 1st century AD, filled with corpse fire. The burial mound itself may well be much older and was built in Celtic times.

The burial mound is the typical burial form of the Hunsrück-Eifel culture. The decor of the dead is modest and fairly uniform: the men have their lances with an iron tip with them, the women are provided with various kinds of ring jewelry.
