The Schmausemühle can be described as a kind of center of the valley. Here is about half of the hiking trail and a seam from one side of the valley to the other. From the south from Sevenich-Heyweiler and from the north from Gondershausen-Beulich, roadways lead into the valley, they meet at the Schmausemühle.
The history of the mill can be traced back to the time of the 30 Years War. It changed its name several times and was called Scheid-, Pies-, Pinger and finally Schmause Mühle after its owners. The operation in their grinder went well, and the millers had customers far beyond the surrounding area.

Start a hike at Heyweiler and then stop at the Schmausemühle a little more than half the way! I've done this twice now and had lunch there. The best thing to do is call them and reserve a table (at least on Sundays). Reserve a table for 1:30 p.m. and start at the Heyweiler hiking car park shortly after 11:30 a.m. worked well.
