The history of Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg is inextricably linked to the history of the Bavarian royal house of Wittelsbach.
On November 1, 1747, Elector Max III. Joseph incorporated the electoral porcelain manufactory in his “Green Castle” in Neudeck near Munich.
Located directly on the Auer Mühlbach stream, the necessary water power for operating the devices was ensured there.
However, initial difficulties in production and high investments without any resounding success quickly caused the elector's interest in porcelain production to wane again.
It was not until 1754, when the production of porcelain was implemented in a controlled manner for the first time, that the Elector became enthusiastic about the "Electoral Porcelain Factory" again.
From then on, the porcelain manufactory, which was financially and ideally supported by the House of Wittelsbach, was an important prestige object of the Bavarian Electorate.(Source: nymphenburg.com)
