The plaque informs us that from the 19th century until around 1990, children were sent away to health resorts in large numbers (without family supervision) and that many did not return healthy but traumatized. The stele commemorates their suffering.

This memorial sculpture was erected this spring and is intended to "make the unspoken visible" and encourage communication on the topic of "children's health cures".

For years, Bad Sassendorf was considered one of the largest children's health resorts in Germany. Up until the 1980s, several thousand children were sent to Bad Sassendorf for several weeks for a healing or convalescent cure. Although the cures were intended to improve the children's health, many children returned with negative memories, some of which continued to affect them into adulthood. Many of these memories are marked by violence, insecurity and abuse. This was revealed by interviews with contemporary witnesses and archive research in recent years.
