The fountains in St. Peter's Square are two twin fountains located in the square of the same name in Rome, included in the territory of Vatican City. They are placed on the main axis of the elliptical plaza, in line with the Egyptian obelisk located in the center. These fountains are a prominent element in the architecture of the square and have been designed by two important figures: Carlo Maderno, author of the façade of St. Peter's Basilica, and Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the great exponent of Roman baroque and brilliant artist of Square. If you want to know more details about these sources, don't hesitate to ask. 😊

The Fountains of St. Peter's Square (Italian: Fontane di Piazza San Pietro) are two fountains in St. Peter's Square in Vatican City, created by Carlo Maderno (1612–1614) and Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1667–1677) to ornament the square in front of St. Peter's Basilica. The older fountain, by Maderno, is on the north side of the square. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fountains_of_St._Peter%27s_Square#:~:text=The%20Fountains%20of%20St.,Peter's%20Basilica.

St. Peter’s Square is simply breathtaking by any standards. The sublime architecture and the splendour of St. Peter’s Basilica are truly beautiful. I visited in late October, and the queues were still long and the square packed. Situated in the middle of this square, in the heart of Christianity, are the Obelisk and two, nearly identical, fountains. The Maderno fountain sits on the north side, and the Bernini fountain sits on the south side of the square. The fountains were created by Carlo Maderno and Gian Lorenzo Bernini in the 17th century to supplement the obleisk and to suitably ornament the square using St. Peter's Basilica as a magnificent backdrop.
