One of the oldest and probably best preserved churches in the Duchy of Lauenburg is the St. Marien Church in Gudow in the southeastern tip of the state of Schleswig-Holstein.
The field stone church from the 13th century is a relative of the so-called Vicelin churches in East Holstein. In the middle of the cemetery, which is surrounded by field stone walls, it forms the center of the village of Gudow, which defines the townscape, with the listed rectory.
