Jean Rapp served as Napoleon Bonaparte's adjutant from 1800 to 1813, and from 1805 he held the rank of Général de division. From 1807 to 1813 he was governor of the Republic of Danzig, a French satellite state. In 1809 he was elevated to the rank of count. During Napoleon's Hundred Days' reign, Rapp was supreme commander of the Army of the Rhine from April to June 1815.
