Prince Archbishop Paris von Lodron had already planned the construction of this Roman Catholic university church for Salzburg on the site of the former Frauengarten. It would take more than 70 years until the new church was completed by the architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach and consecrated in 1707 in honor of the Immaculate Virgin Mary.
