Its source lies in the eastern Königsforst in the Rösrath/Forsbach area, where it is fed by several damp forest hollows.
The stream flows southwest through the forest and disappears underground or ends near the ponds at Röttgen Castle in Cologne-Rath/Heumar.
Depending on the method of measurement, the Giesbach is approximately 7.5 to 8.3 kilometers long.
