The fully functional swing bridge over the Este between Moorende and Estebrügge is one of the rarities in the German bridge landscape. For ships traveling on the Este between Hamburg and Buxtehude, four bridge operators open the Este bridge as needed. They no longer need to exert any strength, all they have to do is press buttons. Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians on both banks wait for the barrier to open and the bridge to be closed again. Ships can only pass through the bridge one and a half hours before and after high water.
