The Palazzo dell'Antella, with its richly decorated façade, is an example of how architecture and art can merge.
The Ricoveri family and later the Del Barbigia family laid the foundations for the current structure of the palace. But it was with Niccolò dell'Antella in the first half of the seventeenth century that the palace acquired its most famous expression. Dell'Antella commissioned the architect Giulio Parigi to unite the parts into a harmonious, majestic whole.
The palace's windows are arranged in such a way as to create a perspective illusion that increases its size towards the church of Santa Croce. Over the centuries the building has passed into various hands until a restoration in the twentieth century recovered ancient architectural elements, while the Monuments Department in the early 1990s restored the restored external paintings, which had been affected by the ravages of time.
