The building complex was then built for the ministries and offices in Florence, but only from 1559 to about 1581 used for it. The name is still preserved, "uffici" is Italian and means "offices".

Since 1580, the Uffizi Gallery has been home to the freely accessible "Galleria degli Uffizi", an art collection of works of painting and sculpture from antiquity to late Baroque.

From the Palazzo Vecchio you can take the inner courtyard towards the Arno, marveling at the intriguing stone figures made by master craftsmen who portray important Italians.

The complex was built at the beginning of the 17th century to house offices and ministries
     - therefore the name. However, soon after its completion, the Medici family already publicly exhibited parts of their art collection.
Today, the exhibitions of painting and sculpture occupy the entire space and the Uffizi are considered one of the most important art museums in the world.
