The Roque Nublo monolith, with its almost 90 meters high, is the main symbol of the island and has inspired a multitude of works of art: "Lirica piedra lunar" lyrical moon rock, or "Altar do mi tierra maga" altar of my enchanting homeland (Nestor Alamo). Modern geology has identified the "Roque Nublo" as a strange type of volcanic rock known as "brecha Roque Nublo", Roque Nublo Breocie. It is the storage and subsequent cooling of embers. The formation belongs to the second period of volcanic eruptions on the island, which lasted almost 2 million years (from 5.3 to 3.4 million years ago).
The Roque Nublo has a special meaning and is a symbolic place of pilgrimage for the locals. Since the peak was reached by a German rope team in 1932, it has also been a destination for mountaineers. The flora of the area consists of young reforested spruces and the yellow undergrowth such as various types of broom and sage.
The massif belongs to the El Nublo nature reserve and has been declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
