In the middle of the historic center of Trittau, adjacent to the nature reserve Hahnheide, lies the watermill with the mill pond. It is the landmark of Trittau and is now used as a cultural center.
The present mill building was built in 1701, but there is a grain mill at this location documented since the 16th century. But the mill site is much older. Shortly after the Trittau Castle was built in 1327, the mills around the castle were probably built. These included the corn mill and a sawmill that no longer exists today.
In 1963 the mill was discontinued. Until 1973, the Stoltenberg company was still engaged in a land trade, then the Trittau municipality acquired the building. In 1976, the mill was registered as a cultural monument.
