Hiking
The name Groeningen comes from Groene inge, which means low-lying grassland.
This village was especially important as a stopping place for mail wagons and other traffic moving along the trade route from Cologne to 's-Hertogenbosch. Later it became a stopping place for traffic between Venlo and Nijmegen. The mail wagons in both directions met here. Luggage was also transferred here from one car to another.

Hiking
The Anthony and Nicholas Chapel, on the Schans, is a monumental brick chapel whose three-sided closed choir part dates from the fifteenth century. A hall-shaped nave is attached to the choir. Renovations took place in the 18th century. Buttresses and window edges have been whitewashed for decoration.
Nowadays only part of a barn can be seen of the former De Voirt Castle (or: De Voort).
Only remains of the former mansions Hertogstoren and Collaershof have also been found in the ground.
