Čertovy Hlavy

Two very impressive heads looking out from the rock. Unfortunately, you can see their age and the weather.

DEVIL'S HEADSFrom Klácelka, the blue sign leads us a few hundred meters down through the pine forest to the road, which then leads us up a steep winding climb to the giant Devil's Heads. The Devil's Heads are 9 m high rock reliefs of devil's heads carved into sandstone blocks, created by Václav Levý in the years 1841-1846. In terms of dimensions, this is a completely unique work by Czech standards. They are the second largest head reliefs in the world, larger only in Mount Rushmore. The reliefs are currently already quite damaged by the weather and especially by human indiscipline in climbing them. In 2011, the owner had the pine forest in front of the reliefs cut down, so the heads can be seen from the I/9 road.
