At the beginning of the 18th century, in memory of the fires that had ravaged the city several times, the people of Maribor erected a monument on Grajski trg Square dedicated to St. Florian, the patron saint against fire, floods and natural disasters. The baroque figure was supposed to protect the city from fires in the future.
