The Gendarmstien is one of the few hiking trails in Denmark that runs very close to the coast, which is why it is considered one of the most scenically attractive in Denmark. Historical monuments, different landscapes and viewpoints can be found along the route. On the German side of the fjord, the path has been supplemented by the Fördesteig since 2015.

One of Denmark's most beautiful coastal hiking trails runs along the northern shore of the Flensburg Fjord. The charming Gendarme Path stretches 84 kilometers from Padborg to Høruphav.
Charming nature close to the coast and history along the way: it takes a good four to five days to walk the entire Gendarmenpfad (in Danish: Gendarmstien), which is divided into five stages. If you have less time, you can do about half of the distance in a weekend, for example from Kollund to Sønderborg - that's 35 kilometers. You go back by bus. Of course, day trips are also possible.ndr.de/ratgeber/reise/flensburg_schlei/Der-Gendarmenpfad-Wandern-an-der-Flensburger-Foerde,wandern298.html
