Actually, the Tarpan no longer exists because it is extinct. Today's Tarpan is a "back breeding"

The tarpan is a very old breed of wild horse. Together with the Przewalski horse, the two types of tarpan, the forest tarpan and the steppe tarpan, are considered the original horse forms from which today's domestic horse emerged.

It has been a long time since herds of tarpans were observed in the wild: the last wild tarpan, a steppe tarpan, was shot in the steppes of southern Russia as early as 1876. Breeding back was successful in 1933 in the Hellabrunn Zoo in Munich. The typical gray with the so-called black eel stripe on the back was retained as the dominant coat color, and various shades of brown as coat colors of the tarpan still exist. There are striking stripes on the ankle - typical of a zebra.
