    TOWN HALL COSWIG (ANHALT)
In the Schmalkaldic War of 1547, it was destroyed along with many other buildings in the city. It was rebuilt in 1560 by Prince Wolfgang in the Renaissance style. Late Gothic groin-vaulted cellars were taken over from the previous building, which are mentioned as dungeons in various Coswig witch trials.

The artistic sandstone portal and the mighty free-standing oak column in the entrance area have been preserved from the Renaissance.

The east wing, the so-called lodging house, was built in 1887 and exclusively for the town cellar to create space for a guesthouse and restaurant.

The town hall was not only important for storing municipal documents, but also contained the muskets of the civil guard and - almost more importantly - the official beer measure.

The current appearance of the town hall is shaped by the extension of 1912.

Around 1937, the council chamber was redesigned by the Berlin architect Hans Dustmann. The city coat of arms with sundial was attached to the tower around 1969.

Further major construction work took place in 1976 with the design of the registry office and the mayor's office and most recently in 2006 with the renovation of the facade of the west wing.

Today the town hall houses the citizens' office and the town information office, the mayor's office, the treasury, the residents' registration office and the registry office.
