The Hai Van Gate or Hai Van Quan is located about 490 meters above sea level in central Vietnam. The small fortification protects and monitors the transition over the pass. The "cloud pass" divides two provinces further apart - Da Nang City and Thua Thien-Hue.

In 1826, Emperor Minh Mang of the Nguyen Dynasty commissioned the gate, inscribed with "the most majestic gate under heaven." It served for many years as a military checkpoint and was only reopened in 2024 after extensive restoration.
