The Molenbeek is a small river that originates near Kortijs in Droog-Haspengouw and flows in a northerly direction to end in the Melsterbeek.
The river flows past Klein-Vorsen and Montenaken, where the Nerum mill is located on the stream. The Molenbeek then goes via Niel-bij-Sint-Truiden and Gingelom to Velm. The Kamerijck Mill is located on the Molenbeek in Gingelom.
After Velm, Halmaal is reached, where the Maasrodemolen is located on the Molenbeek. The mill stream runs on the west side along Sint-Truiden, namely the Stayen district, where there is also a water mill (the Stayenmolen) on the stream.
The stream then flows in a northwesterly direction, past Gorsem, where a watermill, the Grevensmolen, can also be found on the stream.
The stream then flows through the domain of Duras Castle to Duras, before flowing into the Melsterbeek at Runkelen.

This site was once home to the Volmolen (Fulling Mill), a full-water mill on the Molenbeek stream. It was built around 1600 as a fulling mill. Before 1841, it was converted into a hemp crushing and bark mill, making it the only one of its kind in Sint-Truiden. The hemp crushing mill was closed in 1872. By 1909, the mill had fallen into disrepair and was owned by lawyer Cl. Cartuyvels-Macors. The Cartuyvels family had the mill completely demolished in 1931. The site became an orchard. No above-ground remains remain.
