The Cicindria rises in Jeuk and flows into the Melsterbeek after 12 km. Sint-Truiden originated on the fertile banks of the Cicindria stream. Trudo, the founder of the city, came from an estate in Straeten. This hamlet was at an important intersection of Roman roads. In this valley (Val St-Trudon) there was a Benedictine monastery until the 13th century. In 1986, important archaeological finds were excavated along the Roman road, which can now be admired in the town hall on the Grote Markt.
