The church served as a setting for the television series ‘Dagboek van een herdershond’ in 1978. It is a Roman Catholic church with a three-aisled nave from the 16th century and partly, like the choir, from 1851. The tower dates from the 14th century. The 17th-century main altar (mensa Gothic) with an 18th-century exhibition throne is special. In addition, on the Maria side altar there is a simple exhibition throne (18th century). Furthermore, in the sacristy there is an oak cabinet with a dresser, also 18th century. The single-manual organ was made around 1855 by Pereboom and Leyser. The church bell with a diameter of over a meter was cast in 1617 by N. Brochard and A. Richault. Until around 1850, the church was used for approximately 200 years as a simultaneous church for both Catholic and Protestant worship. The current church building dates from 1508. In 1389 and 1393, Eijsden, probably also this church, was plundered and set on fire by the troops of Jan van Heinsberg and Hendrik van Meurs. After being set on fire again in 1483, the church was reconsecrated on 18 June 1508.
For more than 300 years, from 1508 to 1853, it would be a simultaneous church for Catholic and Protestant worship. There was even a period when the church was used by four denominations at the same time. In addition to the Protestants and Catholics, these were the Lutherans from 1775 (the arrival of the cloth industry in Eijsden) and from 1790 a Walloon community was added.
Although the current neoclassical church was extensively renovated in the eighteenth century and in 1851, the church facing east is medieval in design. The brick outer walls with round arch windows also date from 1851.
The sober marlstone tower dates from the 14th century. The spire was renovated in the 17th century.
