Cigar making was a skilled craft, practiced in factories or at home by the entire family.

In 1994, an artist competition was held in which 24 artists participated
to create a sculpture commemorating the cigar craft.

The sculptor Christian Huba, who was studying in Bremen at the time, was chosen.

On October 6, 1996, the "Cigar Maker" sculpture was officially unveiled.

The Cigar Maker Monument in front of the town hall and the "Cigar Maker's Room" exhibition
in the town hall commemorate the time when Achim was a stronghold of cigar making.

The Cigar Maker's Room was established by the local history society in 2003 and displays, among other items, items belonging to the last Achim cigar maker.
