"The Etelser Moor is an upland moor that is heavily overgrown by birch and pine trees with individual heather areas that is often sought out by wandering beekeepers. Everywhere you can see traces of peat cutting from bygone days: meter-high peat walls and deep moats that all drain into the Bassener Mühlengraben Last century it was an essential raw material and was used for heating. The moor has been largely drained, but peat moss and sundew grow on some former peat cuttings in which there is still water. You can also find cotton grass and heather here. It is a very special habitat for Insects, birds, reptiles and other animals. In the nearby Baden Moor, an area of around eight hectares was rewetted after efforts by the nature conservation association. It should serve climate protection in the long term. With the help of a machine, a dam made of impermeable black peat was built up, which ensures that the rainwater cannot run off. This project creates more habitat for many endangered animal and plant species. "

A nice little moor on the edge of Achim. The narrow path that leads directly through it is worthwhile.
