The new fountain on the market square, installed in 2003, symbolizes the events of Nierstein's history with its spiral made of stone blocks:
Column: foundation stone from Roman times.
Bubble jet: Sironabad healing spring
Watercourse: Rhine in the old river bed
yellow ceramic stones: Rheingold
triangular seat stones: Rhine boatmen
Buntsandstein: Red slope and viticultureThe Ulrich Witzmann ceramics farm received first prize in the competition in 2002

The market square fountain is intended to be a place of encounter and tranquility in the old town center. The centerpiece is a three-meter-high column made of ceramic rings, down which water runs.
On an additional stele in the immediate vicinity there are other Nierstein symbols. The base is made of blue ceramic tiles that symbolize the Rhine. The triangular seating stones around the stele represent the hulls of the Rhine boatmen, with diagonally running blue ceramic tiles that are intended to indicate the bow wave.
